No matter what size your company is, a professionally designed website can both
bolster, and in many cases, help define a company’s corporate image to the
public.
You can count on three things that a website will do for you:
- Improve Your Image -
a website is the first impression for many people
- Improve Customer Confidence -
you're not seen as
a "fly-by-night" outfit.
- Increase Sales - it pays
to advertise, a time tested and proven fact of life.
Why charge by the page instead of by
the hour?
Customized layouts involve a large amount of time and energy in
creating a functional website. These are not 'cookie cutter'
sites done here. Another influence to the amount of time
needed greatly depending available resources - meaning it depends on
how much content and vision you can supply in order for it to be
interpreted to the site.
Most Web Designers charge anywhere from $75 - $125 per
hour for Web design services. We at Tomax7 charge by the page
because it helps everyone on budget and avoid being "nickel and dime
to death" due to complications.
What is a Web
page exactly?
A
"Web Page" is defined as one 1024x768 screen worth of
display. Meaning viewing your screen at 1024x768 resolution,
the width and length would be a "page". An actual 8.5"x11" sheet of
paper is about one screen's worth or at 800x600 it would be about
two screens.
What is meant by the term
Bandwidth?
A very simple analogy to use to
understand bandwidth and traffic is to think of highways and cars. Bandwidth
is the number of lanes on the highway and traffic is the number of cars on
the highway. If you are the only car on a highway, you can travel very
quickly. If you are stuck in the middle of rush hour, you may travel very
slowly since all of the lanes are being used up. Most personal or
small business sites will not need more than 2GB of bandwidth per month.
Traffic is simply the number
of bits that are transferred on network connections. It is easiest to
understand traffic using examples. One Gigabyte is 2 to the 30th power
(1,073,741,824) bytes. One gigabyte is equal to 1,024 megabytes. To put this
in perspective, it takes one byte to store one character. Imagine 100 file
cabinets in a building, each of these cabinets holds 1000 folders. Each
folder has 100 papers. Each paper contains 100 characters - A GB is all the
characters in the building. An MP3 song is about 4MB, the same song in wav
format is about 40MB, a full length movie can be 800MB to 1000MB (1000MB =
1GB). For example, viewers watching a ten minute video at a data rate
of 40 Kbs will transfer 400 Kilobits total. Viewers watching the same ten
minute video at a data rate of 200 Kbs will transfer 2000 Kilobits total.
My thanks goes
