Day 1 (Aug 23) Leave Calgary for Lake Louise. It rained heavy and I was hope'n and pray'n it wouldn't do this for the whole trip! God is good, the rain stopped excatly when we arrived in Lake Louise and started again right again after supper for a few minutes! After that, every day on the trip was great! No mosquitoes! |
Day 2 (Aug 24) Helicopter Flight. We all boarded the helicopter and had an excellent flight. The wind was calm and the sun shone! We later landed by a river for lunch, then took off back to Icefield Helicopter Tours. |
From there we drove up the Icefield Parkway, saw the Columbia Icefield, and then turned past Jasper towards Hinton to see Aunt Betty. Stayed overnight at a Jasper National Park campsite. |
Day 3 (Aug 25) Jasper to Clearwater. After staying in Jasper park we headed West then south to Kelowna via Clearwater where we stopped for lunch by the Thompson River. |
Day 3 On the road again to Kelowna. After lunch and exploring the woods, we headed south to Kamloops and then onto Kelowna via the hilly and windy shortcut route #97c. It was hot, but the overhang of the sleeper blocked the sun for us and made the drive enjoyable. |
Day 3 The RV park in Kelowna. Malcolm and Angelique came down and stayed with the RV for the days while we head to Vancouver in a rented Van, which we almost didn't get, that is another story- don't use National Car Rental. Everything turned out right, even was the same colour as the RV. |
Day 4 (Aug 26) Heading to Vancouver to visit my (Tom) Mom. This was the first time Mom Chapman has seen Vancouver, and Dad Chapman a long time ago. We went to the rooftop garden and saw Vancouver all around us. |
Day 5 (Aug 27) We visited Stanley Park, got to sit in a 1929 Mercedes, and had Fish and Chips at Prospect Point. From there we went to UBC and drove around some of the nice homes in South Vancouver. |
Day 5 We visted Queen Elizabeth Park and saw beautiful flowers and a view of Vancouver. But is Vancouver ever dry! The grass was yellow in many places and crunched under our feet. |
Day 6 (Aug 28) We're off to the ferry to Victoria. 1.5 hour trip. Victoria was very dry this time of year, a bit of a disappointment. |
Went down to Fisherman's Warf and had more Fish and Chips! Then drove west to see Butchart Gardens (sorta) and down to the southern windy tip of Vancouver Island with water para-sailers. |
From there we headed back and had a beautiful red sunset to send us on our way home. |
Day 7 (Aug 29) Back to Kelowna, Up at 5am, drove back to Kelowna, returned the rental van, picked up the RV and then drove home. We stopped at Rogers Pass and then onwards to Banff. In total I drove 17 hours that day. |
New overpass at Golden BC. We were too tired and skipped Banff, but the pictures (below) are ones we took a month before. |
Day 8 (Aug 30) Cleaned the RV and drove it back to Go-West. Then had
the family over for the traditional send off - Chinese food.
And on Day 9 (Aug 31) Drove Mom & Dad Chapman to the airport for their 11:45am flight. |
